D.I.Y. - Do it yourself. Yes, it can be done. Yes, you can (probably) do it.

The reasons for reefers to take on "DIY" projects can vary. Sometimes, you can save money by making something yourself. Some hobbyists just like putting in work and feel like they can do a better job. More importantly, is innovation; something doesn't exist on the market and hobbyists will figure out a way to make it, and then share their results with others. This is one of the most interesting and fun aspects of the hobby! I'm a firm believer in a common saying about the reef aquarium hobby: "It's part art, and part science." DIY mixes science and art, to create new and exciting inventions from soda bottle protein skimmers to homemade Auto Top-Off systems.
