I got to take a look at the newest LED fixture from Maxspect. The Maxspect Razor R420R LED Light Fixture is an impressive lady. Sleek, thin, attractive. Can be mounted on the aquarium using the included mounting legs, hung from the ceiling or from hanging arms, or using the Maxspect mounting system. It's quite versatile.
(More information and images after the jump!)
There are two models available: a 20.5" 120 watt and a 27" 160 watt. They are both 11" deep and less than 1" thick (0.9"). There are two color spectrums available in each size, a 10,000K and a 16,000K.
CoralVue, the US distributor for Maxspect products, has posted promising PAR values for this fixture. The CoralVue sight also features technical data and comparisons. The 20.5" model is good for up to 36" tanks, while the 27" model is good up to 48". Multiple units can be used for larger aquariums.
The unit features a built in timer with six set points and two channels (can dim 0-100% in 1% increments.) the blue channel can be dimmed to a low level for use as night/moon lighting. The dimming options with built in timer are an amazing feature at the price point(s).
The sneak peak has me seriously considering this light to replace my 6 bulb T5 fixture. Reduced heat and energy savings can justify the reasonable price, and he sleek design is visibly more appealing than my large T5 fixture.
Marine Depot has the Maxspect Razor R420R LED Light Fixture listed on their website for pre-order. They are expected to start shipping in 2-3 weeks, and at the price point, are going to go fast! If the Maxspect thing isn't your thing, the low price point will be good to force down the prices of the competition, and maybe even some of those DIY systems found on smaller retailers.
